A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR RON LITTLEFIELD

In 2003, a bold strategy was adopted by the City of Chattanooga that would provide a Public Art Plan for our city. Over 500 citizens participated in a series of facilitated public meetings to show interest in and support of public art in Chattanooga.

Our citizens saw this as an investment that would forever enrich and enhance our city. And with a strategy in place, the purpose of the Public Art Plan was defined: to introduce a wide range of high-quality public art into the community, enhancing the civic environment and enriching the lives of residents and visitors.

For some, this means viewing an installation that makes one think, reflect, or pose a question. For others, public art marks a moment in time, a part of our history or an honor to those who’ve served us so well. And for some, public art creates a sense of whimsy, pure joy or humor that can be shared with children both young and old.

The Public Art Committee is to be commended for their tireless work in selecting installations for our citizens to enjoy. As Mayor, I know that public art is just very important. In fact, our culture of embracing public art is one of the many “intangibles” that calls to so many who are now making Chattanooga their home.

Welcome to the Public Art Chattanooga’s website. We hope that as you learn more about the projects and installations located throughout the City, that you will seek out these pieces and find your own favorites to enjoy.

Thanks for visiting us!
